"Where IS the rest of that poem, Dad? Maybe it fell off, ha ha?"

OK: Where's the rest of this poem?

        Fall
              i
              n
              g

Well, it's a one-word poem. You can have those in graphic poetry, since a one-word design can be kind of interesting.

Here's another one-word poem, called "APART."

     A                                                                                       PART

Ready to try one yourself? Think of a word that's about something you can  picture -- an action like "falling," or an idea like "apart" -- and try to show that picture with the shape of the poem. "Tired" might have all its letters lying down, for example.

Of course, there's practically an endless number of words you can do this with. Here are a few that might get you started:

Short
Tall
Little
Big
Twice
Upside-Down
Under
Uphill
Squeezed
Leaning

You can probably think of a lot more. . . .

And of course, you don't have to stick to one word.

Let's try some graphic poems with a few more words.
